Radio XPD is live!

Yup, I started a streaming “radio station”.

No, you won’t hear my amazing voice as a live DJ.

What you will hear is over 6 days (!!!!!) worth of Amiga related music streaming 24/7.

Modules, remixes, musicians, you name it, it’ll play.

Game themes, demo tracks, party entries and more.

AND NO ADS. (OK, theres 2 that play at random, just encouraging you to share this cool stream)

And we have the pleasure of including remix tracks DIRECT from the infamous d4xx (aka daxx) of Scoopex/The Ravebusters/TRSI.

Huge thanks to d4xx for this!

So get in there and enjoy!

Best New Movie of 2021 – Cosmic Sin

So just kidding with that above title this movie looks awful.

Starring Bruce Willis as James Ford and Frank Grillo as General Ryle.

This is another Bruce Willis pay check movie, just following a long line of straight to streaming classics he has now lately, but Frank Grillo deserves better than this.

On IMDB so far it has a Rating: 2.5/10 · ‎2,621 votes and on Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 5% .

Please see the synopsis below:
“In the year 2524, four centuries after humans started colonizing the outer planets, retired Gen. James Ford gets called back into service after a hostile alien fleet attacks soldiers on a remote planet. The threat against mankind soon escalates into an interstellar war as Ford and a team of elite soldiers try to stop the imminent attack before it’s too late.”

One of colleagues on Discord said:
“I watched most of it, please don’t make my mistake. It’s not good, its utter shite.”

I am almost tempted to watch it now, just to see how back it actually. If I do watch I will report back on this site.

GTA V : LSPDFR Installation for Epic Games

GTAV LSPDFR is a mod for GTAV that allows you to play as a San Andreas police official.

So you can chase down the crims instead of being one 🙂

Most the installation procedures online are for the Steam version of the game, and fail to run correctly for the Epic Games release.

So, I whipped up this guide which worked for me.

Obviously install GTA5 via Epic Games

Download LSPDFR

Download RageHook

Install LSPDFR – ensure it installs/extracts to your GTAV directory and NOT in a mods/LSPDFR/whateva directory.

ie: D:\Program Files\Epic Games\GTAV – Correct

D:\Program Files\Epic Games\GTAV\Mods\LSPDFR – Wrong

Install RageHook – this will look for your GTA directory, so ensure its located the correct directory.

Run GTAV from the Epic Games launcher, and once its started loading the game engine (usually once the Rockstar logo has appeared and sirens playing), Alt-TAB to Windows, and find the RAGEPluginHook.exe in your GTAV folder, and run it – it should now load and detect the game is already running.

Flick back to GTAV and you should see the Rage logo appear.

If you see this, you are pretty much done.

Running RageHook on its own, does try to load the game, but it gets confused as it tries to authenticate with the Rockstar Launcher rather than Epic Games, and will fail.

LSPDR is not compatible with GTAOnline, and if you try entering GTAOnline with RageHook running, you will get a warning message.

To get back into GTAOnline, you will need to exit/kill the Ragehook process.

Note : I don’t know if its a side effect or just my install, but I’ve noticed that the GTAV game exe does not seem to shutdown properly once you exit the game, so if you need the RAM/CPU back or have issues starting the game again, kill the process or reboot your PC.

Movies Moving Forward

Living in New Zealand we have been very lucky that we locked down early and are now able to be out and about.

I know in many other parts of the world this is still not possible, this brings me to movies in theatres in 2020 and moving forward.

Me and my wife went to see Wonder Woman 1984 last week at the theatre, it was nice to get out and see it on the big screen but this cost roughly $60.00 once the tickets and snacks were bought. I dread to think how it costs for a family to go to the movies these days.

From what I understand in the States, this movie was shown the streaming network HBO Max as part their plans to show a lot of their movies this year on this network. Disney and other companies are also looking at putting some of their movies on their relevant steaming platform.

I believe moving forward that we will see more simultaneous releases on and a reduced delay between when a movie is released and then appears on streaming.

Now people have got a taste of the convenience of watching movies in the safety of their own homes at a greatly reduced cost the horse wont be able to be reigned back in.

I still some movies would greatly benefit from the big screen, I am personally looking forward to the new Dune movie whenever that gets released, but just like all PC games are now online Movies now will have to change the way they are released as well.

The Hunt : A Job for 2021

So I’m on the job hunt again. Being made redundant at the end of 2020.

Funny thing is, it’s not because of Covid-19.

Oh well. Shit happens.

So I’ve been applying like crazy to anything that I’d be suited to with my skillset.

Process is :

  1. Find suitable job listing
  2. Compare requirements to my skill set and experience
  3. Apply for position
  4. Wait.

….. and wait…. and wait…. and then an email arrives.

“Sorry, but your skillset does not match our clients requirements”

*blink*

I go back to the advert thinking Ive missed something.

Nope.

Advert asks for skills 1,2,3,4,5,6.

My CV shows my having skills 1,2,3,4,5,6.

I seem to be hitting this a LOT.

Am I too experienced for the position and theyre worried I’d get bored ? Have they listed the wrong skillset ? Or the wrong job ?

The other thing Im encountering, is the lack of personalized response as such. Sure, use a template, but make it seem personlized. Like using my name, or sending the response from a legitimate email address that I can reply to rather than a robot response via Seek.

The hunt continues…….

New Dune Movie

One of my favourite books has a new movie coming out next year, that would be Frank Herbert’s Dune.

As per Wikipedia:

Dune is a 1965 science-fiction novel by American author Frank Herbert, originally published as two separate serials in Analog magazine. It tied with Roger Zelazny‘s This Immortal for the Hugo Award in 1966,[2] and it won the inaugural Nebula Award for Best Novel.[3] It is the first instalment of the Dune saga, and in 2003 it was cited as the world’s best-selling science fiction novel.[4][5]

Set in the distant future amidst a feudal interstellar society in which various noble houses control planetary fiefs, Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides, whose family accepts the stewardship of the planet Arrakis. While the planet is an inhospitable and sparsely populated desert wasteland, it is the only source of melange, or “the spice,” a drug that extends life and enhances mental abilities. Melange is also necessary for space navigation, which requires a kind of multidimensional awareness and foresight that only the drug provides.[6] As melange can only be produced on Arrakis, control of the planet is thus a coveted and dangerous undertaking. The story explores the multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the factions of the empire confront each other in a struggle for the control of Arrakis and its spice.

There was a previous movie done by David Lynch in 1984, but that one was a disappointment and Sci Fi TV mini series which wasn’t too bad considering the budget.

Denis Villeneueve‘s Dune off its December release date and will unveil the epic sci-fi movie on Oct. 1, 2021, Collider has exclusively learned.

The big-budget adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic novel boasts an all-star ensemble including Timothée ChalametZendayaOscar IsaacRebecca FergusonJosh BrolinDave BautistaJason MomoaStellan Skarsgård and Oscar winner Javier Bardem.

We will have to wait and see how this one turns out.

Microsoft Acquire Zenimax (inc Bethesda)

Iconic games portfolio, publishing expertise, and world-class talent accelerates growth in Microsoft’s Gaming business

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — More than three billion people on the planet play games for fun, escape, and human connection. Unlike any other medium, games empower people to engage in creativity, strategic thinking and teamwork, immersing them into interactive stories and worlds created by some of the world’s most amazing creators. The cultural phenomenon of gaming has made it the largest and fastest-growing form of entertainment in the world—an industry that is expected to be more than $200 billion in annual revenue in 2021.

As the gaming industry transforms from a device-centric era to a player-centric era powered by new technology that provides the freedom to play with friends anywhere on any device, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) on Monday announced plans to acquire ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, one of the largest, privately held game developers and publishers in the world. Creators of critically acclaimed and best-selling gaming franchises including The Elder Scrolls and Fallout among many others, Bethesda brings an impressive portfolio of games, technology, talent, as well as a track record of blockbuster commercial success, to Xbox. Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will acquire ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion in cash.

With unique investments in content, community, and the cloud, Microsoft’s gaming strategy differs from others by empowering people to play the games they want, with the people they want, anywhere they want. Games are the primary growth engine in gaming, and games are fueling new cloud-gaming services like Xbox Game Pass, which has reached a new milestone of over 15 million subscribers. With the addition of Bethesda, Microsoft will grow from 15 to 23 creative studio teams and will be adding Bethesda’s iconic franchises to Xbox Game Pass. This includes Microsoft’s intent to bring Bethesda’s future games into Xbox Game Pass the same day they launch on Xbox or PC, like Starfield, the highly anticipated, new space epic currently in development by Bethesda Game Studios.

“Gaming is the most expansive category in the entertainment industry, as people everywhere turn to gaming to connect, socialize and play with their friends,” said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft. “Quality differentiated content is the engine behind the growth and value of Xbox Game Pass—from Minecraft to Flight Simulator. As a proven game developer and publisher, Bethesda has seen success across every category of games, and together, we will further our ambition to empower the more than three billion gamers worldwide.”

“This is an awesome time to be an Xbox fan. In the last 10 days alone, we’ve released details on our two new consoles which go on pre-order tomorrow, launched cloud gaming in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and now we’re making another investment in the most critical part of our strategy: the games,” said Phil Spencer, executive vice president, Gaming at Microsoft. “Generations of gamers have been captivated by the renowned franchises in the Bethesda portfolio and will continue to be so for years to come as part of Xbox.”

The planned acquisition includes publishing offices and development studios spanning the globe with over 2,300 employees, including Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios. Bethesda’s critically acclaimed and best-selling franchises include The Elder ScrollsFalloutDOOMQuakeWolfenstein, and Dishonored, among others.

Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media was founded in 1999 by Chairman and CEO Robert A. Altman; Bethesda’s structure and leadership will remain in place.

“This is a thrilling day for this company, our employees, and our fans. We have enjoyed a close partnership with Microsoft for decades, and this deal is a natural progression of those years working together,” said Altman. “The big winners today are our fans. We are continuing to develop our slate of AAA games, but now with Microsoft’s scale and entire Game Stack, our games can only get better.”

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and completion of regulatory review. Microsoft expects the acquisition to close in the second half of fiscal year 2021 and to have minimal impact to non-GAAP operating income in fiscal years 2021 and 2022. Non-GAAP excludes the expected impact of purchase accounting adjustments, as well as integration and transaction-related expenses.
