Two new Sci-fi shows have come out recently Halo and Strange New Worlds, I really like both of these shows so far. Im a sucker for Sci-fi shows but there have been some bad ones recently especially in the Star Trek realm (looking at you Picard and Discovery)
Halo
Halo is based on the very popular video games series, which I was vaguely aware of but knew virtually nothing about. There was almost a big screen movie many years ago which Peter Jackson was going to produce but that fell through.
I was a bit skeptical about a Halo TV show, but after watching 6 episodes so far it has been enjoyable. The actors are well cast and the special effects actually look decent, from what I have read the writers have cherry picked the story elements from the video games to make their own new story lines. This is fine for me as I didn’t have any idea of the games any way. The other thing I like is that in the very first episode you get to see the Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) with his helmet off, this saves all the nonsense of dragging out for a season if you get to see his face.
Highly recommend watching
Strange New Worlds
This is another Star Trek show, I know what you are thinking sigh not another dark and gritty version like Picard or Discovery (which sort of has got better each season), this is set roughly 10 years before the original Star Trek and start Anson Mount as Captain Pike.
Mount was in Discovery Season 2 as Pike and was one of the only good things about that season, in fact his portrayal was so popular with fans that the eventually the producers were forced to give him his own TV show.
Strange New Worlds goes back to the episodic style of show, which ties things up by the end of the episode but still has dangling threads. Only one episode has been released so far but this is a return to the optimistic take on Star Trek which shows there is still hope for the future and they made the bold call to actually make the characters likeable as well.
Definitely worth watching
