I picked up an old i3 Toshiba laptop cheap recently, and have decided to turn it into a portable retro gaming unit.
Upgraded it to 8GB RAM, swapped out the drive for an 480GB SSD and installed Windows 10. It has an HDMI port so can easily connect to a large screen, and will pick up a couple of basic joypads.
I’ve chosen RetroArch as the front end, and will be emulating a variety of systems such as NES, SNES, Sega, Amiga and MAME.
Now, because its an old laptop, and its the boring black, I’ve decided I’ll attempt to paint it a different color – mainly a beige that matches the Amiga 500.
There’s a lot of discussion online about what color the A500’s actually we’re, and trying to paint match seems to be an ongoing battle – I’m just going to go with a “smoky-beige” color as per this product here.
I’ll just spray the main case, and leave the keyboard as is for now……
I’ll move this post to the Projects section once I get started and put up pics as I go.
