Browsing TradeMe, come across an Amiga 500 for sale.
Its filthy (as in black shit all over it), missing keys, and does not work according to the seller.
Then I see who the seller is.
A well known identity in the local Amiga community – not for good reason.
I’m in one of those moods, so I put a comment on the auction.
My comment:
(Looks at complete working A500 with 1084S on his desk, picked up for free 3 months ago).
Yeah, nah…. š
The only seller charging these prices for faulty Amiga gear is yourself.
Sellers Response:
Oh gosh I’m really not bothered by your ill informed opinion. But let me just say this. As far as NZ retrogaming is concerned you’re 1). A nobody, 2). You have no gear to trade, 3). You’re infinitely inferior and not worth anybody’s time on the Tm retrogame marketplace.
Wow. Just wow.
Yes, I was technically breaching the TradeMe rules for commenting the way I did but the attitude back is funny as hell.
“Ill informed opinion”
Yeah, nah mate…… if you knew me, you’d know otherwise.
“a nobody”
To you, yes, but I’ve probably done more to promote the Amiga over the years than you ever have.
“You have no gear to trade”
Who said that ? Just because I’m not listing anything Amiga related on TradeMe ? I’m not a trader for the Amiga, more of a collector, so moot point.
“You’re infinitely inferior and not worth anybody’s time on the Tm retrogame marketplace”
Ooooo burn……. love that comment. “TM retrogame marketplace” – as if thats a recognized community for true retro gaming fans etc.
Now, I’m not petty (am I ? :D), so I won’t mention the sellers name, but anyone who has had dealings with him, will recognize the attitude and be laughing.
My issue with people like this, is that they just happen to know that the Amiga is still popular, so grab whatever they can with the Amiga name, and think they can charge the earth – especially this guy. He has done NOTHING to try and improve the Amiga in question. Not cleaned it, attempted to fix it, just taken a pic, thrown a price on it and expects it to sell.
He was selling an Amiga 500 a while back, and put the comment along the lines of “Unable to test, as have no power supply for it”, yet the very next item he had for sale was a power supply for an Amiga 600. Anyone who has a basic knowledge of the Amiga these days, knows the PSU will run any stock Amiga (The A600 one is a little under powered compared to the ones that came with the A500’s, but long as its stock, its fine to use).
He has had multiple negative feedbacks and comments due to scamming people. Sold someone a NES unit claiming it was in mint condition, and the photos HE had taken proved as such. Yet when the item arrived, it had cracks in the housing, and a section CUT out. When the buyer complained, the seller just blamed in on the postal service and that the $9 BAG should have been fine to protect the console.
I send out small items I sell in bubble wrap, a console would either be pickup only or probably around $20 shipping so I could obtain suitable packaging for it, not just throw it in a bag and expect it to survive.
Unfortunately, people do continue to deal with this seller and get suckered into paying his extremely high pricing.
If you are into retro gaming etc and use TradeMe as a source, please do your research before hitting that Buy Now button, and avoid muppets like this seller. You can get a faulty Amiga from the UK cheaper that what this guy charges…….
