Just watched the new Space Jam movie this last week, this is the sort of belated followup to the Michael Jordan’s Space Jam movie from the 90s.
I will admit that I have a soft spot the the 1996 Space Jam movie, sure its silly but it has a charm and easy going nature to it and Michael Jordan has enough charisma to pull it off.
This new version starring LeBron James the current NBA legend is also fun, but focuses less on the basketball and more on pushing the greatness for the Warner Bros universe. The story what there is of it, has a computer algorithm (Al G. Rhythm) played by Don Cheadle kidnap LeBron’s son into the “Serververse” and LeBron has to play a basketball game to get his son back. Including some funny references to the other WB properties.
There are some nice themes about being your own person and the Looney Toons are as entertaining as ever, they have always had a timeless charm.
Harmless fun, but a bit forgettable. Plus minus points for not at least (SPOILERS) not having Michael Jordan cameo.
